Reginald Ernest Norgate 15 years old arrived in Montreal 1929

My Uncle Reginald Ernest Norgate was aged 15 when he participated in the British Immigration and Colonization Associations effort to get the British to emigrate to Canada.

He was Born in Farringdon, Hampshire 26th June 1914. Farming was the life he grew up in, being raised at Crows Farm.

He was on the ship Arabic which left Southampton 29 Dec 1928. I try to Imagine what that last Xmas was like for his mother and family. He left behind 4 brothers and 4 sisters, a somewhat crowded house, so perhaps it was time to move on to bigger and better things.

His arrival record has the following comments: 4 boys being sent primarily to Western Quebec and Eastern Ontario. I don't have any real understanding of what this would have been like for him. An adventure perhaps - or what his expections would have been and were they met.

I know Reg at some time joined the Canadian Army and was stationed back near Farringdon UK as I have a lovely photo of him in his uniform with my mother.

He later met and married Vernie Duvall,a local girl from Morrisburg, they raised 3 daughters of their own and also fostered a girl.

Reg died in 1972 in Amherstview. Vernie died in 1990

It would be wonderful if you would share an image of your uncle Reg.

I hope his overall experience was positive.
